Portage Bay residence: charming craftsman update
Remodeling a kitchen in a traditional Craftsman home is an act of love. In this situation, the owners wanted more space, better function, and updated design. They also wanted the kitchen to have a more direct relationship to the back yard.
Once the kitchen was gutted and the existing back porch enclosed to gain additional space, the project took shape. Today, the kitchen is a pleasing mix of clear vertical grain Douglas fir cabinetry, Tuxedo limestone countertops, and stainless steel professional-grade appliances.
Of special construction note: Once in a while, Prestige has the privilege of helping a client with design. In this case, making the decision to claim the back porch as kitchen space immediately added square footage. The careful opening-up of an adjacent small study gave the clients better visual and physical access to existing space.
